Combining human-centered design with system thinking to pilot new processes, and drive new business opportunities across the built environment sectors.

Defining scope

UNStudio, a global architecture and design firm’s vision is to drive innovation through user-centric design. As a Creative Strategist, I am leading strategic design activities across company functions to define the purpose, brand and strategy for the new lab. Following the in-depth market landscape research, and numerous strategic workshops we defined the target market and new brand focused on experience design for the built environment industries: from interior component manufacturers, cities to real estate developers.

Piloting new process and tools

We used collaborations with manufacturers, real estate developers and governmental organizations to pilot a new process and digital co-creative tools such as Mural and Miro. We introduced user journeys across digital and physical touchpoints as a collective research tool to define experience for buildings, public spaces and interiors. Together with internal stakeholders and clients from different sectors we experimented with new ways of working - from design sprints, 10 types of innovation, co-creative sessions, foresight, to system thinking. As a result, we piloted new user-centric processes for internal and external stakeholders.

Expanding business capacities

The process led to implementing new design process, communication tools for the unit, How we Work manual, and expanding UNStudio consulting capacities and securing new
projects in service, experience and strategic design.
